How do you choose the right one? First off, be sure to ask if your website will be Search Engine Friendly.

Here are a few things that you should look for in a Web Designer in the Miami/South Florida area:

Do they use templates for customers websites?

Will their code be validate? (I will explain this in more detail)

Will your website be search engine friendly?

Will your website be cross browser compatible?

Will you be working one on one with your designer?

Will your website be submitted to search engines?

Again, beware of "Miami web designers" that use templates or WYSIWYG editors to produce your website. For the most part templates and generated code usually does not validate and are not search engine friendly. Also, these sites may have javascript or flash which will not allow search engine spiders to access the content of your website, resulting in your site not being placed well in searches for the services your small business offers.

What do I mean by valid code? Valid code insures that the search engine spiders or crawlers understand what language your website is written in, which gives you a much better chance of being found in the search engines. Without valid code the search engines may pass your website by because they do not understand the language.

If you would like to read more about valid web design please visit the World Wide Web Consortium website. Also, you can check any website on the internet to see if their code is valid by visiting the W3.org Markup Validation Service.

There are a lot of fly by night web designers in the Miami area, be sure to do your research. Check references, ask questions, be an informed web design consumer. I have spoken to so many people in the Miami/South Florida area that bought a website just because it was pretty, they didnt know about SEO and were never told that by the Miami web designer they chose to build their small business website. Don't get stuck with a website that is just a pretty picture, invest in properly coded website that has the chance to be the internet marketing machine you expect it to be.

Your websites purpose is to bring in new customers though local searches, it should be your 24/7/365 internet marketing machine. Be sure that the Miami web designer you choose has the same goals for your website. Do not spend your hard earned money on a website that is not search engine friendly, you may never see a return on your investment.

How I am different from most Miami Web Designers

My Web Design process.

First off I hand code all of my clients websites to be search engine friendly and validate them to insure the search engines understand the information on your website. Many Miami web designers will just take your money and not provide you with a fully functional search engine friendly website if you are not carefull. A website is a marketing tool that should bring in new customers to your small business.

Secondly I code all websites with SEO (seach engine optimization) in mind, it is not a separate fee, its just part of the basic structure of your site. It foolish to code a website for pure aesthetics which is what we find a lot of in the Miami/South Florida web design arena.

If you want a website to advertise the services that you offer in the South Florida area, obviously you expect your website to be found in the search engines. As your web designer my philosophy is to give you, the web design consumer a fully functioning website which includes search engine friendly coding.

Without SEO chances are no one will ever find your website in a search. The only people who will ever see your website are the people who you give your web address to.

Cross Browser Compatability

Different browsers such as; IE7, IE8, Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and so on, read CSS differently therefore it is important that your site maintains its appearance across the different browsers. For this reason be sure your website is cross browser compatable.

Design work.

I also do all the graphic design needed for your website in Adobe Photoshop. Along with graphics for your website I can also do:

Animated GIF's (similar to Flash, but search engine friendly)

Business Cards

Flyers

Posters

Menus

Photographic effects and touch-ups

Ask about any custom graphic work you need, we may be able to help.

What I do and don't do in Web Design.

I do basic simple structure search engine friendly websites. I write in XHTML code that does validate. Also I do separate cascading style sheets, or CSS which also validates. This helps ensure that not only is the web design attractive to the human eye, it is also attractive and understandable to the search engine spiders.

What we don't do. I do not do java script, PHP, flash or database driven websites. There are plenty of web design companies in Miami doing those, and we have no desire to compete in that market.

I have chosen to specialize in simple affordable websites for small businesses. With the economy being what it is today we all need to support our local small businesses. My goal is to get the unknown local business on the map so to speak.

I am always happy to consult with anyone who has an interest in my free lance web design and development services.
